Get ready for a roller-coaster ride of creative writing. The Big Write-Kenosha challenges you to write a 175 page novel--that's 50,000 words--in 30 days. (A youth version will also take place at the same time, allowing younger writers to set their own word count.)The Big Write-Kenosha takes place from November 1-30, 2011, giving you the opportunity to stop talking about the novel you're going to write some day, and instead to start putting it down on paper.
The Big Write-Kenosha coincides with National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). Event organizers invite you to register with NaNoWriMo at its Website to receive tips, verify your word count, and obtain additional support toward the creation of your book. You may sign up at any time.
Over 120,000 writers take part in National Novel Writing Month with about 20,000 of them achieving the 50,000 word mark. NaNoWriMo reminds its writers (also known as Wrimos) that "the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly."
The Big Write-Kenosha is presented by the Kenosha Public Library, the Kenosha Writers Guild, and Southport Press. Together, they wish to make this challenge enjoyable and rewarding for you. Orientation sessions take place in the Fall to give you insight and more information. See schedule as autumn approaches.
The Big Write-Kenosha is free. You can sign up for the ages 13 and older Big Write challenge or select the challenge for those who are ages 12 and under. No qualifications needed, just a desire to write.
Non-Kenoshans are welcome to participate in the Big Write-Kenosha. C'mon aboard Racine writers (and other Wrimos from other way out places). At the NaNoWriMo site, we're listed under USA Wisconsin Kenosha-Racine for the host region and for writers' forums.
